Project Description

You will investigate the historical context and the political and social significance of events in the Dominican Republic during the late 1950s and early 1960s in order to better understand the world Alvarez creates in her novel In the Time of the Butterflies. Whether your focus is on the Mirabel sisters, on Trujillo, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, or on certain aspects of Dominican culture, this Guide will lead you to helpful resources.
