You and a partner will be creating a Wikipedia-style article of one of the topics listed below on the Civil War. This will be a research project, and you will need to use bulleted notes and correct citations for your sources. Wikipedia articles have MANY sources. The baseline requirement is MORE THAN 3 SOURCES. You can have 4, 5, 6…etc., but you will need more than three.
Ms. Kaplan has created a Lib-guide for you, and you may use the books, eBooks, American History Online, or Britannica online as your resources. You will also need images (as all Wikipedia articles have images), and these will need citations, so please use Britannica Image-Quest.
As you might have seen on Wikipedia, the style has a particular format that makes it easier for the reader to understand the topic. You will need to make sure that your article clearly explains the topic and utilizes the same stylistic elements of a Wikipedia article.
Here are the elements that you will need:
Captions: For the image caption, you will need to give a one-sentence description of what the image represents. Since you will be using Image-Quest, please provide the background information for the photograph: date, photographer, title (if there is a title), and what it represents.
At the top of every Wikipedia article is the Wikipedia symbol. For our purposes, create a new logo and title for your “website.” Get creative! You can combine your names, think of a historical reference, or come up with a title that ends in “-pedia.”
Topics: You will choose (as a pair – one per group) a topic for your article from the ones listed below. You must submit your chosen topic to Schoology before writing the article. [Only one submission per group – include both of your names in the document.] This will need to be in 1-2 complete sentences.
