Project Description

English 9

For your project on Macbeth, you will be writing a review of the play.  To prepare for that, you need to think a little bit about the format and style of a review before you see the play.  Having done that, you will be ready to write a review of your own!

Step One—learn about reviews (25% of project grade)

1.  Choose three films and plays.  Of the three, you must have at least one play staged in New York and Atlanta—so, perhaps a play that has been on Broadway and been staged at the Fox.  For each one, find one full-length review from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and one full-length review from the New York Times.  In other words, you will have three pairs of reviews, Six reviews total.

2.  For each pair of reviews, please type the correct MLA bibliographic form at the top of the page (single space that, please), and then type a single-spaced reflection in which you compare and contrast the two reviews in terms of style.  For each pair, you should write at least one page but less than two. Standard elements of writing apply—introduction with thesis statement, body paragraphs with topic sentences, quotations to support your points, prose that flows.  Please use Times New Roman, 11 pt., regular margins, etc.

Step Two—watch the play

1.  Watch the play

Step Three—write the review (75% of project grade)

1.     Using what you learned about the format and style of reviews in Step One, write your own review of Macbeth.  Your review should be 4-6 pages.
